Welcome to the house that Jack's drunken brother-in-law built! A recent outbreak of ants around the patio doors prompted us to take a closer look at our front sill. Now we're tearing the whole front of the house off. While we're at it, we might as well add a subwall, since we don't actually have one!

The demolition begins and vinyl siding is removed. Photo taken June 22, 2006.

The deck is removed, revealing a rotting sill and door frame. Note that there used
to be another entrance and window here. Photo taken June 23, 2006.

The older siding is removed, revealing a window with no insulation, no subwall,
and no insulation around the power boxes. We believe this was originally a porch that
was later enclosed and made part of the main house. Photo taken June 25, 2006.

Jeff has a "What the f#!% were they thinking!" moment. Photo taken June 25, 2006.

The first quarter of the house is sealed and a new window is installed. Jeff learns the importance of length vs. width measurements when it comes to ease of window replacement!

We get a crew together to tackle the new french doors. A total of 24 feet of sill is replaced.

All the windows and the door are now in place. The second layer of insulation is added.

In the past month we've added screen doors which are painted with the new trim color. Today's project is adding the new cream siding.

The front is for the most part done. Bagged leaves will act as extra insulation for the winter, and will be added to the compost pile in the spring.
