Mature seed pods burst open at a rate of approximately 35 mph, dispersing seed widely. Small wonder that it's commonly called Johnny-jump-up, as it's not unusual to find them escaping the garden area. This European native is edible, and high in vitamins A and C. This is also the mother of all modern pansy cultivars.
