Also sometimes referred to as "herb of grace", this plant helps to deter japanese beetles, making it an excellent companion plant to roses. Historically, rue was used as a culinary herb to lend a bitter flavor to dishes and liquors. The sap is known to cause allergic reactions in some people, particularly when that exposure occurs in sunlight. It's also a known abortive, so modern use is not recommended without the supervision of a licensed herbalist.
